Transnistrian refugees boycott Chisinau Council’s meeting
Representative of the Movement of Transnistrian Refugees boycotted Thursday’s meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) seeking immediate allocation of apartments in the residential block built for them. They boycotted CMC’s meeting after picketing the building of the City Hall for over an hour as part of an authorized protest.
As the Transnistrian refugees were crying and throwing accusations at the municipal councillors, the meeting was interrupted and resumed in about an hour.
The issue regarding the allotment of apartments to the refugees was the last on the agenda and was included at the request of the councilman of the Our Moldova Alliance faction Oleg Cernei. He said that this problem cannot be postponed anymore because the refugees appealed to the European Court of Human Rights. They complained that the City Hall refuses to implement the decisions of the Moldovan courts, which sequestrated the residential block and obliged the local authorities to distribute the apartments to the refugees.
The refugees were assured that their representatives will be heard by the municipal councilors at the meeting that will deal with their problem. Under the last item on the agenda, the Council must only approve the composition of a special commission that will examine the dossiers of the families of refugees that apply for dwellings and will submit the final list of beneficiaries for adoption at the next CMC meeting.
When the councilors will consider the amendments to the municipal budget for this year, they will also vote to allocate 1.5 mln lei, the sum that is needed to complete the construction of the block designed for refugees that is located on Mircea cel Batrana Street.
Anatol Bazgu, chairman of the Movement of Transnistrian Refugees, said that the families that have already settled in the block will not leave the apartments. He asked the local authorities to intervene and connect the block to the electric power system because the families cannot warm themselves as the suppliers refuse to provide heat and electricity through lack of a relevant ordinance. Chisinau Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca promised to solve the given problem.
