Transnistrian peacekeepers continue 'provocative actions'

The Transnistrian members of the peacekeeping mission in the Security Zone continue to engage in provocative actions, ignoring the decisions of the Joint Control Commission (JCC), the Moldovan delegation to the JCC said in a statement. The members of the Moldovan delegation said that lately the Transnistrian side has made multiple unilateral attempts to set up new barricades at the infamous joint peacekeeping post no.9, where a Moldovan citizen was shot dead in January 2012. According to the Moldovan delegation, these actions violate the decision of January 13 which prohibits parties from changing the status quo at post no.9 until the Joint Military Command issues a decision as to how to improve control at this checkpoint. At the latest JCC meeting, the Moldovan delegation accused the Transnistrian side of continuing the practice of misinforming public opinion by claiming that impediments were created for the deployment of Transnistrian peacekeepers to checkpoint no.9. In another development, the Moldovan delegation also criticized the Transnistrian side for prohibiting an NGO from holding a manifestation dedicated to the Children's Day on June 1 on a bridge across the Nistru. This, according to the Moldovan delegation, confirms the incapacity of the Transnistrian side to engage in a constructive dialogue, both within the JCC and with civil society.
