Transnistrian party suggests setting up Public Chamber

The Patriotic Party of Transnistria has launched an initiative to establish the Public Chamber – a representative body of the region's civil society, taking Russia's Public Chamber as a model, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The Public Chamber is needed to ensure the participation of the society in the process of approving political and social decisions”, explained Igor Ivanenko, a leader of the Patriotic Party. The Chamber is proposed to have 44 members elected for a two-year term, half of whom would be appointed by Transnistria's leader Igor Smirnov. The other half would be elected by the public associations working in the region. The initiative has been endorsed by the region's Republican Party. The final version of the draft will be submitted for consideration to Igor Smirnov.
