Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Lilian Darii spoke about the prospects of the Transnistrian conflict settlement process and the evolution of the crisis in Ukraine at the OSCE Annual Security Review Conference that is taking place in Vienna, IPN reports.
In a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration says that in his speeches, the deputy minister underlined the importance of the recent resumption of the official talks in the 5+2 format after a hiatus of two years and reiterated the authorities’ firm decision to continue to promote the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, including by implementing the agreements reached in the meetings held in this format. Lilian Darii pleaded for stepping up efforts with a view to resolving the dispute by agreeing a special status for the region, by observing the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova.
The Moldovan official also reasserted the authorities’ readiness to continue to support the efforts aimed at stopping hostilities in eastern Ukraine and at overcoming the crisis in this country, invoking in particular the crisis’ negative impact on regional security.
Lilian Darii noted the country’s interest in updating the 2011 Vienna Document on confidence and security building measures with the aim of increasing military transparency and security in the OSCE area. Moldova pleads for the complete and unconditional withdrawal of the Russian troops from its territory, in accordance with the decisions taken at the OSCE Istanbul Summit of 1999. The authorities insist on the transformation of the current peacekeeping operation working in Transnistria into a multinational civil mission with international mandate.
