Imports into the Transnistrian region in the first ten days of this year decreased by US$7 million or 43%. Exports fell by US$3.3 million or 60$. The data were presented at the meeting of the crisis cell in Tiraspol, IPN reports.
According to a report by the Transnistrian administration, the exports of metals and metal products, items for building cars and chemical industry goods decreased the most. Cement exports were fully suspended.
"For comparison, the parameters of 2024, which were already lower due to the unilateral introduction of import duties by Moldova, were taken," said the Transnistrian administration.
A number of key enterprises in the region ceased operations after the natural gas supplies were halted by Russia’s Gazprom that invoked the non-payment of a debt of US$709 million, which is not recognized by Chisinau. The Moldovan authorities accused the Kremlin of energy blackmail.
