Transnistrian families with disabled children benefit from Russian aid
Twenty families with children with disabilities from the Transnistrian region that have dual, Russian and Transnistrian nationalities or are Russian ethnics will receive a lump sum payment of $70 each. The money was provided by the Government of Russia under the Assistance to Compatriots from Abroad Program administered locally by the Foundation “Hope for the Family and Children”, Info-Prim Neo’s correspondent in Tiraspol reports.
The aid was disbursed late in March. The beneficiaries can collect the money on July 7 and 8.
“We decided to provide the aid before the Feast Day of Saints Pyotr and Fevronia of Murmansk, who are the patron saints of the family,” said Elena Karaivanova, head of the Foundation “Hope for the Family and Children”.
She also said that the foundation is mainly sponsored by a British foundation, but the aid received from it this year is minimal. “Therefore, we sought help from the Government of Russia,” Karaivanova said.
Elena Maslova, cultural attaché at the Russian Embassy in Moldova, said that the program aims to provide aid, assistance and remedial treatment when needed.
The Foundation “Hope for the Family and Children” was founded on July 7, 2005 on the basis of the foundation with the same name existing on the right bank of the Nistru. In 2007, it became an interdependent institution.
