Transnistrian experts worried about development of USD/Transnistrian ruble rate
In the Transnistrian area, the difference in buying and selling US dollars gets closer to 3 rubles (3.52 lei), and this is threatening the economy, local experts maintain. The currency reserves are almost out, and Transnistria has no gold. Its central bank announced last week that the dollar reached a record high of 13 Transnistrian rubles (15.30 lei), Info-Prim-Neo's correspondent in Tiraspol reports.
The central bank recommends the commercial banks not deviate by more than 10% the selling-buying rate for currencies from the official figures.
Alexandru Ghevlici, a top militsia officer, says all the measures have been undertaken to counter currency-related offenses. He proposes that the authorities control the currency movement within the area. He suggests that the savings & loans institutions should raise their statutory capital four times.
Victor Belicenco, a doctor of economy, explains the sudden fall of the ruble by inefficiently managing the trade balance. The imports into the area are two times bigger than the exports.
In February, the US dollar exceeded the growth projected by the region's economy ministry for the end of the year.
