Transnistrian doctors alarmed by well water quality

The water in the wells of several localities in the Transnistrian region does not correspond to the hygienic-sanitary norms. Of the 137 samples collected, only 53 cases showed potable water, reports “Novyi Region” on its website, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. According to the sanitary doctors of the region, the quality of water depends on the wells’ maintenance level. In some places they are covered, have buckets, and the area around the well is paved. In other places, however, the situation is exactly opposite. The doctors even noticed animal barns close to the water sources, placement that is strictly forbidden. Sanitary doctor Vasile Mitrofan, from Ribnita, claims that the residents frequently complain about the poor quality of the water, but do nothing about it and expect the authorities to do everything. “There were times when well would be dug and maintained by the entire community. Regrettably, this is not what happens nowadays, whereas the negative aspects affect the residents. Wells are a very important source of drinking water, and last year’s harsh winter conditions have proved it, when giant queues were forming at well in the city”, stated Vasile Mitrofan.
