Transnistrian conflict to be discussed at meeting in Paris

The sub-committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) dealing with conflicts between member States will be holding a round table on the Transnistrian settlement process on January 16 in Paris, IPN reports.

The meeting, in which high-level representatives of the Moldovan authorities and the Transnistrian de facto authorities will take part, as well as representatives of international organizations and civil society, will in particular consider the political aspects of the Transnistrian settlement process, including the progress made in the dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol.

According to the Parliament’s press service, the holding of a meeting on the issue was agreed in the PACE Session of October 2017 by the chairman of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu, president of the National Delegation to the PACE, and the chairman of the Sub-Committee on Conflicts between Council of Europe Member States Stefan Schennach.

The Sub-Committee includes the co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee for Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine, the president of the Monitoring Committee, by a member of the Monitoring Committee of the each of the aforementioned states and the heads of the Political Groups in the PACE.

In the January 16 meeting, Moldova will be represented by Marian Lupu and Inna Shupac, who is a member of the National Delegation to the PACE and the representative of the parliamentary opposition. Transnistria will be represented by chief negotiator Vitaly Ignatiev and speaker of the so-called supreme soviet Alexandr Scherba.
