Transnistrian conflict has palpable geopolitical connotations, historians
“It is absolutely evident that the Transnistrian dispute is no longer an internal conflict as it acquired geopolitical connotations,” historian Anatol Taranu, director of the Political Analysis and Consultancy Center “Politicon”, has told Info-Prim Neo. He made the statement in the context of the roundtable meeting “Phenomenon of separatism in Moldova: 20 years after the Nistru military conflict on (1992-2012)” that was held in Chisinau on June 5.
Anatol Taranu said that within the roundtable meeting, historians involved in the examination of this topic discuss the latest historiographical accomplishments. The debates look at the Nistru war and the prospects of settling the Transnistrian conflict from a different perspective.
The historian stated that the dispute cannot be resolved by using only the internal resources of Moldova. Results can be achieved with the involvement of international players.
“I’m convinced that these meetings will represent an important stage in creating the mechanism by which the history of the Transnistrian conflict will become known. This mechanism is built by the effort of many Moldovan historians,” said Anatol Taranu.
In the same connection, the chairman of the National Association of Young Historians of Moldova Sergiu Musteata said that the roundtable meeting aimed at stimulating discussions on the notion of separatism in Moldova and the methods of overcoming it. “We will publish a study after these debates, which will be distributed to the general public,” he stated.
