The central bank of Transnistria is against the putting of the Russian ruble into circulation in the region. Representatives of the bank said it’s impossible to predict the consequences of such a decision. According to the local press, the bank’s position was stated in a meeting of the competent commission of the Supreme Soviet of Tiraspol, Info-Prim Neo reports. Transnistrian deputies consider that the introduction of the Russian ruble will not affect the financial system, but the representatives of the bank have a different opinion. “It’s not that simple. The currency of another state must be secured simultaneously with the Transnistrian ruble. As the central bank of Russia has its own monetary policy, it will pursue its goals. It’s hard to say if the Russian central bank takes the interests of the Transnistrian region into account. What will be the consequences? Will the Transnistrian ruble be used on parity conditions or will be replaced by the Russian ruble? In fact, it’s a very serious matter,” said Vadim Stepanov, of the Transnistrian central bank. In the end, the Transnistrian deputies decided to recommend the Supreme Soviet to approve this legislative initiative, after taking into consideration the comments of the commission’s chairman Oleg Vasilatii, who said that the bi-currency system in the region can be introduced on stages, based on a well-planned strategy.
