Transnistrian authorities distribute financial humanitarian aid provided by Russia

The authorities of the Transnistrian region directed the financial humanitarian aid offered by Russia mainly towards the deprived groups of people. Another part of the money will go to open an agricultural bank on the region. The financial assistance is to be transferred this weekend, Info-Prim Neo's correspondent in Tiraspol reports. Transnistrian minister of finance Irina Molokanova said the humanitarian aid will not be used to cover the republic's budget deficit, but to meet the needs of the pensioners, invalids and children in orphanages. As the previous years, the pensioners will receive a bonus of 150 rubles (230 lei) to the pension. The sum for the first quarter will be paid in March. Afterward, the size of the bonus will be set depending on the exchange rate of the Transnistrian ruble. A sum of 260 million rubles (400 million lei) will be used for the purpose. Money will be also allocated for improving the menus at orphanages, rehabilitation centers for disabled children and correctional institutions. The first tranche of the Russian aid is expected by March 1. Last week, the Transnistrian leader Igor Smirnov said Russia will offer about US$100 million in aid to Transnistria. In the middle of last year, Russia promised to provide a loan of US$500,000 to Moldova. Later, it said it can give only US$150 million. Recently, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said the US$150 million loan is not valid anymore as the legislative body of Russia budgeted the money for last year. In order to obtain a loan this year, Moldova must present the projects for which it wants money to Russia.
