Transnistrian association of the blind signals discriminations in employment
The Union of the Blind from Transnistria signals out unfair conditions of employing the blind people. Its president Oleg Kolesnik has told Info-Prim Neo's correspondent in the area that of 1,600 registered blind, 20% are jobless.
Only two companies in the area “Rasvet” and “Maiak” offer the blind training and employment. They manufacture devices for lathes and laundry pincers. Yet their salaries are miserable, say Oleg Kolesnik.
The two plants cannot however employ all the blind, he said .
The Transnistrian blind get a pension varying from 490 lei to 1110, depending on disability degree and duration of being employed.
The Union of the Blind from Transnistria, founded in 1994, has 1,600 members, including 1,000 children. It has branches in the towns of Grigoriopol and Dubasari.
