Transnistria is not an obstacle to visa regime liberalization
The opening of the dialogue on the liberalization of the visa regime between Moldova and the European union means that the Transnistrian conflict is not an obstacle anymore, considers Victor Chirila, executive director of the Foreign Policy Association. At the same time, the expert said that both Chisinau and Brussels must find solutions to ensure the security of documents, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a debate, Victor Chirila explained that the Moldovan citizens from the Transnistrian region can obtain biometric passports on the basis of the birth certificate. “We must identify solutions to make sure that this certificate is not forged. Otherwise, citizens of other countries who are in Transnistria could obtain a birth certificate and then a safe document that will allow the Moldovans to travel to the EU,” the expert said.
Victor Chirila also spoke about the Moldovan-Ukrainian border on the Transnistrian segment, where migration and smuggling are out of control. “It is good that the dialogue will be opened and the EU will come up with proposals,” Victor Chirila stressed.
“When the Moldovan citizens are allowed to travel to Europe visa free, the situation will certainly favor the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict,” said the deputy head of the Foreign Ministry's European Integration Division, Eugen Caras.
The dialogue on the liberalization of the visa regime between Moldova and the EU opens in Luxembourg today.
