Starting with October 20, the drivers in the settlements of the Transnistrian region can travel at the highest speed of 50 km/h. The region’s informational-analytical portal Dniester says this speed limit is a European standard, IPN reports.
Until now the speed limit in Transnistria was 60 km/h, as in Russia. The Transnistrian administration said the move is aimed at reducing the number of road accidents in the region.
According to official reports, 50 road accidents involving pedestrians occurred in the Transnistrian region in the first nine months of this year. Ten persons were killed, while 44 were hurt. In most of the cases the blame for the accidents was borne by the drivers.
