Transit regime for trains going through Ukraine in south to be simplified

The Moldovan passenger and freight trains that cross three customs posts when going from Giurgiulesti to Basarabeasca may have a simplified transit regime. Such an agreement was reached in the negotiations held by the administration of the Ministry of Transport of Moldova and the Ukrainian authorities in Kiev, IPN reports, quoting an informative note of the Ministry.

According to Deputy Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Vladimir Cebotari, who led the group of negotiators on behalf of Moldova, they agreed to modify the agreement concerning railway transport between the governments of the two states with a view to excluding the obligation for the trains crossing customs posts to undergo customs and border control.

Vladimir Cebotari said the Moldovan trains that run through the south of the country have to cross three customs posts and thus to go through customs control procedures six times, when entering the customs posts and when going out. Thus, the freight transportation time and costs increase significantly.

The amendments to the agreement will be soon presented to the Government of Moldova for approval and then to Parliament for ratification. Similar procedures are to be performed by the Ukrainian side.
