More than 6 million crossings by people and over 1.3 million crossings by motor vehicles were recorded by the border police during the three months of this summer. Compared with the corresponding period last year, the number of persons who went through border crossing points rose by about 10%, while of units of transport by 17%, IPN reports.

According to the Border Police Service, of the total number of crossings by persons, about 4 million represented crossings by Moldovans, while over 2 million crossings by foreigners. The number of crossings by foreigners rose by about 20% this year.

As the previous years, the border is most often crossed in August because our expats plan the vacation abroad in the period and also owing to the national holidays and the return to work. Thus, in August, the border police recorded over 2.3 million crossings by people and over 500,000 crossings by motor vehicles. The number increases annually.

The border crossing points Leuseni, Otaci, the Airport, Sculeni and Giurgiulesti were the most popular in the summer of 2016.
