A Hungarian company, MET International AG, would make gas supplies for the Transnistrian region in the Trans-Balkan pipeline for one month. Deliveries, in daily volumes of up to 5 million cubic meters, may start on February 1, Kommersant, quoted by IPN, reports Kommersant.
A supply contract between Moldovagaz and MET could be signed in the near future, "only a framework agreement has been reached," Kommersant sources say.
The Chisinau authorities have not yet confirmed the information.
According to the Russian publication, subsidiaries of the Hungarian trading company MET International AG have booked capacities for the trans-Balkan gas pipeline at the Isaccea-Orlovka entry point on the Romanian-Ukrainian border, as well as at the Ungheni entry point on the Romanian-Moldovan border, the Iasi-Chisinau gas pipeline.
Recently, Prime Minister Dorin Recean mentioned that other contracts have been presented, which the government rejected for various reasons. According to the prime minister, the Chisinau authorities do not conduct negotiations and do not mediate any transactions, but check their legality.
"Both the Government and the state institutions are obliged to verify the legality and compliance with national and international legislation of the submitted contracts. The government has previously invalidated contracts for lack of compliance with national and international norms," said Dorin Recean.
Chisinau has decided to lend gas to the Transnistrian region, so the loan of three million cubic meters of gas was approved in order to maintain pressure in the system. The solution was coordinated with the European Commission. The EC proposed an emergency assistance package worth €30 million as a first step to help Moldova solve the energy crisis.
