Training in security at work has decreased dramatically, opinion

The training in security at work has decreased dramatically during the last few years. The higher studies in the field were reduced from five years to four years, Efim Olaru, head of the Anti-Fire Program of the Technical University of Moldova, stated in the program “Issue of the Day” on Canal2 TV channel, IPN reports.

According to him, the workplace security training during the Soviet Union was devoted by 120 hours. Now the allocated time at many faculties of the Technical University that trains specialists, future managers was decreased to 45 hours. “When we are in a building on fire, we should first of all know the emergency exits. The edifices that can accommodate more than 50 people concomitantly should have at least two emergency exits and these should not be close to each other,” said Efim Olaru.

Mihai Lascu, head of the SindLex Trade Unions Federation, said both the General Inspectorate for Emergencies and the competent services warned about the fact that the State Protection Inspectorate was transferred from the General Inspectorate for Emergencies under the management of the Ministry of Economy as part of an agency, but this Inspectorate does not yet work. In the absence of inspections, the risk of fires is big.

As to the fire at the Zoology Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Mihai Lascu said that even if the firefighters came on time, they could not immediately start to extinguish the fire there owing to the vehicles parked near the institution.
