Train circulation between Moghiliov-Podolski – Ocnita and Transnistria was resumed

Circulation of trains across the railway bridge over Nistru River at 116 km section between Moghiliov-Podolski (Ukraine) and Ocnita (Moldova) will be resumed starting Friday, December 15. The bridge was closed for repairs for about 3 months, this fact causing the suspension of trains’ traffic from Moldova to and from CIS space. Through this bridge Moldova resumed the full-scale railway traffic with passengers to Moscow, St. Petersburg and Minsk, as well as of freight trains. Counsellor at Moldova Railways Anatol Tsvetcov told Info-Prim Neo that all the freight trains that stationed at the border of Moldova continued their routes, which were halted on September 1. Tsvetcov also stated that the circulation of train no. 65/66 Moscow-Chisinau via the Transnistrian region was as well resumed on Friday. Its circulation was stopped by the Russian authorities on November 1 because its route was changed via the north of Moldova and this fact disrupts the timetable and generates failures in the work of the Russian railway services. The Russian authorities asked for the resumption of the previous route via Transnistria, which was suspended on March 3, 2006 because of the railway blockade organised by the separatist authorities. Tsvetcov mentioned that the train is Russian and the officials from the Russian Federation have taken upon themselves the risks related to the safety of the passengers via the separatist region. Three trains will be moving between Chisinau and Moscow: two of Moldova and one of Russia. The traffic of freight trains via Transnistria was resumed on September 7, 2006 after the railway services of Moldova and Ukraine signed a temporary agreement about the organisation of freight train movement on the Cuciurgan – Causeni railway section. By this agreement, the Ukrainian party took upon itself the risks of transporting goods via the territory of Transnistria, excepting those produced in Moldova. The Ministry of Transport and Road Management, Miron Gagauz rejected the political grounds in the case of the resumption of traffic on the bridge from Moghilov-Podolski-Ocnita, in comparison with the suspension of Moldova-Chisinau train.
