Traian Basescu won't attend Chisinau summit: Romanian presidency - UPDATE
[UPDATE] “We'll see”, said Andrei Stratan, Moldova's foreign minister, when asked by journalists whether Romanian president Traian Basescu will come to the SEECP summit in Chisinau. He made the statement on Thursday before the Parliament's session. “We got no official reaction from Bucharest,” Stratan added.
Romanian president Traian Basescu will not attend the SEECP summit to be held earlier next month in Chisinau, the Romanian presidency is quoted by Info-Prim Neo as informing.
“After the events occurring in the post-election period in Moldova, Traian Basescu's participation in the summit, as was announced in March, is not opportune any longer,” reads the release.
The level of Romania's being represented will be decided at a later date.
On May 27, an official of the Moldovan Foreign Ministry told a news conference the Romanian president had confirmed his attendance and that the strained relations between the two countries may be broached at the reunion of the South East Europe Cooperation Process.
