Traian Basescu reappoints Emil Boc as Romania's Premier

President Traian Basescu Thursday re-named the leader of the PDL Emil Boc as Prime Minister and promised that Romania will have a new Government by December 23, while the state budget will be adopted by January 7, Info-Prim Neo reports. After the Constitutional Court of Romania validated the presidential election results, Basescu conducted negotiations with all the parties, but reached an agreement only with the UDMR and the independent MPs. The PSD and PNL refused to negotiate the formation of the new Government. . The PSD came to the negotiations, but refused to cooperate and called on all the members of the party, the MPs, the local elected authorities and sympathizers to remain united and not allow that the party be destabilized. For its part, the UDMR rejected the proposal made by the Social-Democratic leader Mircea Geoana to form a parliamentary majority together with the PNL and PSD and invited the Liberals to form a government in concert with the PDL. Traian Basescu said it is the Premier's prerogative to draw up the list of ministers, but added that he asked Emil Boc to discuss with him the candidates that would form part of the country's Supreme Defense Council. He explained that a new Prime Minister was to be quickly appointed as there are a number of conditions imposed by the IMF that must be fulfilled, including the adoption of the budget for 2010.
