Romanian President Traian Basescu laid flowers to the graves of famous Moldovan people at the Central Cemetery in Chisinau. He was accompanied by Romanian ministers, Moldova's Caretaker President Mihai Ghimpu and Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, Info-Prim Neo reports. At Grigore Vieru's grave, the Romanian head of state was met by the late poet's wife and son, Raisa and Calin Vieru. They gave him books with poems written by the bard. Asked if he has a favorite poem by Grigore Vieru, Traian Basescu said that he likes all his poems. “I cannot have a favorite poem as Grigore Vieru did not write them with the hand, but with the heart,” he answered. Basescu also said that if Grigore Vieru had been alive, he would have wished him long life and that he taught all those living in Moldova and Romania how to love the motherland,” he said amid tears. At the grave of singers Ion and Doina Aldea Teodorovici, the Romanian president met with Doina's mother Eugenia Marin. “They lived nice days and left beautiful songs behind,” said Eugenia Marin. Traian Basescu replied that this couple became a real symbol of the Romanians. Traian Basescu also laid flowers to the graves of Ion Vatamanu, Gheorghe Ghimpu, Anton Crihan and Nicolae Costin.
