Traian Basescu: I will never run in parliamentary elections in Moldova

The former President of Romania Traian Basescu, president of honor of the National Unity Party (PUN) of Moldova, said he will never run for a seat in Moldova’s Parliament. The politician noted he wanted a unionist party in Moldova through which to speak about the advantages of Moldova’s union with Romania. Such statements were made in the talk show “Politics” on TV8 channel, IPN reports.

“I want to have a unionist party that will speak about the union. I’m not interested in a political career in Chisinau,” stated Traian Basescu. He noted he didn’t come to Moldova to reopen his political life. “I no longer want a political career. I have a moral duty – I believe in Great Romania,” said the ex-President of Romania, adding he wants to make a party that would convince of the PUN.

Referring to the new mayoral elections in Chisinau municipality, Traian Basesc said he offered the ex-mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca to field a common candidate, but received no answer. According to him, the unification of the unionist forces for the local elections is still possible, if one of the two unionist parties - the PUN or the Liberal Party – reaches the runoffs with their candidate.
