Traian Basescu hopes PCRM will support ruling alliance
Romanian's President Traian Basescu voiced hope that the Communists Party of Moldova will help the Alliance for European Integration to elect the head of state as Moldova cannot afford to hold elections every year, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting www.hotnews.ro.
“The Alliance does not have enough votes to elect the President of the republic. I hope the PCRM will support the Alliance so that a head of state is elected as soon as possible,” Traian Basescu said in a conference held jointly with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Mevlut Cavusoglu.
According to the Romanian President, the current government coalition represents the correct political solution for Moldova, but the country is now in the same situation as after the elections of 2009. “A country like Moldova cannot afford to organize elections every year. No country can afford this,” he stated.
The PACE session started in Strasbourg on January 24 and will last until January 28. The agenda includes such issues as the situation in Tunisia, the crimes against the Christians in Middle East, the post-electoral situation in Belarus, and the functioning of democracy in Hungary.
