The European Union and the United States must play a more important role in the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format. Not only Chisinau should make determined efforts, the President of Romania Traian Basescu said during a program on the PRO TV Chisinau channel, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. According to Traian Basescu, the Transnistrian dispute is an obstacle to Moldova's entry into the EU as the European Union does not want to import a conflict following the precedent with Turkey-Cyprus-Greece. “Romania has always considered Moldova an independent state that should have control over its entire territory. But the presence of the Russian troops and munitions in the Transnistrian region cannot favor the solving of the conflict,” Basescu said during a briefing in Chisinau.
