Traian Basescu: Dodon’s decision shows he is afraid of me

The former President of Romania Traian Basescu said Moldovan President Igor Dodon’s decision to withdraw his Moldovan nationality shows that this is afraid of him, IPN reports.

“I found out about this decision from the press. Nobody informed me. (...) What other opinion can I have than the one that a pro-Moscow President withdraws the nationality of a citizen of the Republic of Moldova only because this does not think like him? But I will never be able to think like a Bolshevik,” Traian Basescu stated for Agerpres.

The ex-President of Romania said he will consider the possibility of challenging the decision in court. “I will see what I can do from this viewpoint, but, in accordance with the Constitution, the President of the Republic of Moldova has very broad powers in this regard. I don’t know if something can be done in court. It is yet definite that Dodon is afraid of Basescu. His decision shows this,” he stated.

The President of Moldova Igor Dodon on January 3 signed a decree to withdraw the Moldovan nationality from Traian Basescu, not yet that from his wife Maria Basescu.
