Traian Basescu and Vladimir Voronin to meet in Chisinau

Romanian president Traian Basescu will come to Chisinau earlier in June to attend the summit of the SEECP heads of states to be chaired by Moldova's outgoing president Vladimir Voronin, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Romanian president has confirmed he will attend the summit of the heads of states and governments of the South East Europe Cooperation Process (SEECP), to be held on June 4 and 5 in Chisinau, Dumitru Tara, an official of the Moldovan Foreign Ministry, told a news conference on May 27. At the summit, they will also consider the strained relations between Romania and Moldova. “I don't rule out that some heads of states will broach the bilateral relations between the SEECP member countries,” Dumitru Tara said. The official does not rule out the two heads of states may hold bilateral meetings, although there are no requests so far in this respect. “Neither we, nor the Romanian side have asked for bilateral reunions. I don't rule out, however, they will occur,” he said. After the April 7 protests in Chisinau, Moldovan president Vladimir Voronin accused Romania of getting involved in organizing a coup d'etat. He requested to out Romania's ambassador from Chisinau and to introduce visas for Romanians. Romania's Traian Basescu rejected the claims, blaming the Moldovan authorities for the violence and asked the Romanian Government to ease the procedure of granting Romanian citizenship to the Moldovan citizens.
