The number of offenses concerning trafficking in persons has decreased. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, in 2011 there were recorded 372 such offenses, as against 423 in 2010. The data were presented in a summing up news conference, Info-Prim Neo reports. In 111 cases of the total number of offenses, there were trafficked grownups, in 24 cases – children. In 14 cases, children were taken illegally out of the country, 105 cases were investigated as cases of procuring, while 118 cases concerned organization of illegal migration. It was established that cases of procuring abroad involving Moldovans were most often met in Russia, Turkey, Cyprus and the United Arab Emirates. In 2011, the investigations over 208 criminal cases were finished. Of these cases, 174 were sent to court for examination, while 34 cases were closed. The prosecutors appealed 16 sentences on 18 persons to the Court of Appeals. In order to prevent and combat the trafficking in human beings, the prosecutors cooperated with representatives of the nongovernmental sector and with such international organizations as the Center “La strada”, the Center for Combating Trafficking in Women, the U.S. Embassy in Moldova, the International Organization for Migration, and the OSCE Mission to Moldova.
