Traffic on Mateevici St to travel in both directions for one more week
The section of Alexei Mateevici St between the streets Alexandr Pushkin and Vasile Alecsandri will be open for public transport in both directions for one more week. Afterward, the Chisinau City Hall will make an assessment to see if the opening of movement in both directions fluidized traffic or not, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The work phase of the stoplights was increased by 8 seconds on Alexei Mateevici St, in the direction of Vasile Alecsandri. The movement is more fluidized. We will follow our work principles,” the head of the General Public Transport and Communications Division Adrian Boldurescu said Tuesday.
Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca stated in this connection that the Traffic Police committed an abuse last week, when they unilaterally set up a road sign showing that movement is in one direction only. “The whole city suffers the consequences of such a move that has nothing to do with traffic fluidization. The Traffic Police can ask installing or uninstalling a sign, but do not install them themselves. They had to wait for the decision to be abrogated. We will leave things as they are for the time being,” he said.
Until several weeks ago, the private transport could travel on Alexei Mateevici St in one direction only. The City Hall decided to allow movement in both directions in order to ease traffic.
