An officer of the National Public Security Inspectorate was arrested on suspicion that he took over 7,000 lei bribe to save a driver from contravention penalties. According to the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, he allegedly falsified official documents, imposing fines on other persons, IPN reports.
The driver concerned was captured on film speeding and crossing at the red traffic light by video cameras in Chisinau. In order to avoid penalties, he allegedly offered the police officer the amount of over 7,000 lei. From this money, the policeman presumably paid part of the fines, but he falsely imposed them on five other drivers, who had nothing to do with the offenses, some of them not even being in the country at that time.
The traffic officer, who was recently hired, was arrested. Prosecutors are examining the evidence to charge him with corruption and falsification of public documents.
