The Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure has announced that movement on sections of national roads, especially those going through border crossing points, is hampered by the heavy snow and low visibility, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Motorists are warned to avoid the following road sections: [M1 Chisinau-Leuseni at the border with Romania], km 64, not far from Cristesti; [M2 Chisinau-Soroca at the border with Ukraine], km 33-34, not far from Peresecina; [R1 Chsinau-Ungheni-Sculeni at the border with Romania], km 79-80, near Cornesti; [R3 Chisinau-Hancesti-Cimislia-Basarabeasca], km 27, near Fundul Galbenei; [R30 Anenii-Noi-Causeni-Stefan Voda at the border with Ukraine], km 19-20, near Troita Noua, and [R 34 Hancesti-Leova-Cahul-Slobozia Mare], km 2-6, near Mereseni, and km 68-70, near Valcele.
These road sections are patrolled by special teams of road maintenance companies and representatives of the Traffic Police. They make sure that the antiskid material can be spread. About 260 vehicles and 190 workers were engaged in snow removal on the national roads.
The Ministry’s press officer Dragos Turea has told Info-Prim Neo that all the bus and minibus routes to Romania were cancelled because of the unfavorable weather conditions.
The authorities of Chisinau announced in the afternoon that all the roads were passable and there were no traffic jams. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the head of the municipal road maintenance company “Exdrupo” Efim Cheptanari said that 27 snowplows are cleaning the main streets from snow and are spreading salt and sand. Two tractors and one snowplow are clearing the streets of snow in the suburbs.
