Traffic in a number of intersections in Chisinau will be regulated by traffic circles, not by stoplights. Such an order was made by the mayor in a move to fluidize traffic.
Contacted by IPN, the head of the Public Transport and Communications Division Igor Gamretski said the traffic lights will be disconnected at the following intersections: Mihai Viteazu – Stefan cel Mare, Ciuflea – Stefan cel Mare, Ismail – Stefan cel Mare, and Vasile Alecsandri – Stefan cel Mare.
The roundabout or gyratory systems at the four intersections will be introduced on a trial basis. Plastic markers will be set up in the intersections for the trial period.
According to Igor Gamretski, the stoplights may be also disconnected at the intersection of the streets Pushkin and Banulescu Bodoni with Stefan cel Mare Blvd., but such an ordinance hasn’t been yet made.
In a roundabout, entering traffic must always yield to traffic already in the circle.
