Traffic lanes in Chisinau to be narrower

The traffic lanes in the capital city will become narrower. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca requested the road workers to switch over from the Soviet marking system to the European one, which is now used by most of the states, IPN reports.

The mayor said that under the European marking system, the lane must be about 2.5 meters in width, not 3.5-4 meters as the Soviet system used now by road workers provides.

According to the mayor, the narrowing of lanes will enable to ease traffic and to make the drivers more disciplined. Dorin Chirtoaca asked to hasten the formulation of the legislation amendment proposal so that the motor vehicles parked illegally could be towed away by the specialized services as these significantly hamper traffic.

The mayor also asked the responsible services to repair street lightning where problems are faced, first of all near crosswalks.
