The administration of the National Confederation of Trade Unions insists on increasing the minimum official salary up to the minimum subsistence level. In a press briefing on April 15, after a meeting with Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, the Confederation’s chairman Oleg Buzda said that the minimum salary currently covers only 35% of the minimum subsistence level for persons able to work, IPN reports.
Oleg Budza underlined the importance of personalizing a part of the mandatory health insurance contributions calculated in percentage from the salary.
The trade unions reiterated the requests to increase the childbirth lump sum payment to 5,000 lei in 2015 and to work out a mechanism for granting long-term loans, at an interest rate lower than 5%, so that the young people can purchase homes and the state offers them more opportunities for remaining in the country.
Iurie Leanca said after the meeting that he is satisfied with the cooperation between the Government and the trade unions. “It is important to continue to have a constructive dialogue so as to identify appropriate solutions,” he stated. According to him, the National Confederation of Trade Unions is a partner with which the executive has an active dialogue, while the objectives are common and are aimed at improving the living conditions. But the demands of the working people who are represented by the trade unions must be adjusted so that they are within possibilities.
