The legislative body should adopt the new law on remuneration in the budgetary sector during the current session so that the incomes of budget-funded employees increase as of January 1, 2019. If this does not happen, the citizens will remain only with promises and the disappointment will be great, president of the National Confederation of Trade Unions Oleg Budza stated in the festivity held to celebrate the Trade Unionist’s Day that is annually marked on June 7, IPN reports.
Oleg Budza said the Republic of Moldova goes through a difficult period, but they hope that the expected benefits will come in time as the chosen path, of European integration, is a correct one. A new social council under the Prime Minister should be set up as the salaries in Moldova grow very slowly and this happens because of the considerable size of the underground economy.
President of the National Employers Confederation Leonid Cerescu said that even if a lot of effort has been made to facilitate the entrepreneurial activity and to improve the business climate, the economic development level in Moldova is not the desired one. Moldova needs tens of years to reach the EU standards. “The exodus of labor force increases. The salaries are not appropriate. The efforts made to improve the situation are insufficient,” he stated.
Attending the event, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said he has had good cooperation relations with the trade unions, even when criticism was leveled. He knows that the pensions, salaries and benefits in Moldova are very low, but the initiated reforms will produce results in the near future. As to the lack of labor force in Moldova, the Premier said that as long as the salaries are low, the situation is not the desired one.
The Trade Unionist’s Day has been celebrated in Moldova since 2006. The National Confederation of Trade Unions has over 400,000 members.
