Tracy Letts’ August premiers at Mihai Eminescu Theater

August, a tragicomedy play by the American actor and playwright Tracy Letts, directed by Alexandru Cozub, will premiere at the Mihai Eminescu National Theater on January 20 and 21.

The play will also be performed in Iasi at the Vasile Alecsandri National Theatre on January 25, as part of the Union Tour.

The director Alexandru Cozub said that he tried to make a show that would please and gather the audience.

The literary secretary of the Mihai Eminescu Theater, Maria Pilchin, noted that the director brings to the stage an important American playwright, a dramatic text in an original directorial vision. It is a “drama of a generation”, but also a “tribunal of the self”.

The action takes place in a torrid August, where Violet, an ailing mother, alarmed by the disappearance of her husband, Beverly Weston, calls her children and sister to return home to the arid and tornado-haunted Oklahoma. A famous text about the dark side of family relationships, about the toxic nightmare they can sink into in the absence of empathy, about alienation and ambitions, about unlove and selfishness.
