Tractors for vocational schools

14 vocational schools have today received one tractor each. This is the first stage of a campaign to provide equipment to the secondary education vocational institutions, as a part of the National Programme for reviving the secondary education system. Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Anatolie Gorodenco stated at the event that in the second stage the vocational schools will be provided with equipment for processing raw material and agricultural products. Attending the event, Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin emphasised the need for adjusting the vocational education system to the demands of the national economy, the need for increasing the reputation of the vocational schools, and for modernising their logistics and didactic support. The President stated that the authorities will further improve the working conditions in the secondary education vocational institutions, this way offering youngsters opportunities to get a real profession in short terms. Prime-minister Vasile Tarlev said that this action has the goal to encourage the vocational schools with an agrarian profile, because: “we have a lot of jobless persons among people with higher education, but we lack people to work the soil” The donated tractors are priced at about MDL 3.5 mln. The money was allocated from the Fund for Subsidising Agriculture, and from the resources of the MAFI and of the Ministry of Education and Youth. There are 77 secondary vocational education institutions in Moldova at present.
