Tractors distributed according to political criteria
Economic entities working in agriculture owe over 30 million lei for the agricultural machines distributed by the previous government through the agency of technological tractor and car stations. The information was presented at a meeting of heads of district agricultural divisions held at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry on December 11, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The debts are about five years old. A number of 230 technological tractor and car stations were created under the Communist rule. They were outfitted with agricultural machinery that was purchased by contest and then given to a number of beneficiaries. The district councils were asked to present letters of guarantee for paying for the machines within particular periods.
Sources in the Government informed that the given letters are now demanded again, which means that the beneficiaries will be forced to pay the debts.
Minister of Agriculture Valeriu Cosarciuc said in some of the cases the money will be withdrawn from the accounts of the district councils, with the help of the Prosecutor's Office. “In other cases, we will have to take the agricultural machines away from their users and give them to those who can manage them efficiently. There are enough people who know how to use them to make money and pay the costs,” the minister said.
“The 30 million lei could be used to buy other machines. Unfortunately, the agricultural machines were distributed according to political criteria, not according to the necessities and capacities.”
