Tourism potential of Moldova is not fully realized

The tourism potential of Moldova must be realized uniformly. The Moldovan tourism sector does not include only Orheiul Vechi and the wineries that are known abroad, but also the natural reserves, the northern part of Moldova, the Domneasca Forest, the Plaiul Fagului reserve, the area of Soldanesti and other places where tourism can be developed, expert in tourism Alex Filipski stated for IPN.

Alex Filipski said the promotion of the national tourism should start from the national conscience. “Video messages must be devised to promote the picturesque places of Moldova. Courses should be given in education institutions to teach the young people to promote the country. The schools can organize excursions through the country more often. The achievement of these desiderata must start with the tourism routes. We have designed 20 routes that regretfully intersect each other. They must be detailed and classified by areas: north, center, south, and east. A company can promote such trips through the country,” he stated.

Alexei Filipski added that the national tourism companies are not supported by the authorities. “There are no long-term contracts between the carriers and tourism companies and no loyal competition. An example is the carriers that go abroad for tourism purposes and are exempted from VAT. The carriers involved in the national tourism have to pay VAT on thematic and other kinds of trips,” said the expert.

He noted that the Tourism Agency does not have enough money to develop modern techniques for promoting the image of tourism in Moldova. The educative videos are a type of marketing for informing and attracting consumers. Emphasis should be also put on online advertising.

Alex Filipski also said that Moldova does not yet have a tourist map and an online map. “Google maps” didn’t identify the entire area of Moldova because we do not have competent specialists to promote projects. Moldova’s legation should be adjusted to the EU’s and Romania can serve as an example. The tourists visiting Moldova are impressed by the landscape and express their regret at the fact that the tourism values of the country are not promoted. Moldova has yet a lot to do to get rid of the stereotype that it has only beautiful women and goods wines.
