Tough luck for Moldovan wrestlers
Another two Moldovan athletes yesterday started off on the wrong foot at the Wrestling World Championships in the Danish town of Herning, after two fellow freestyle wrestlers failed a day earlier, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In the 60 kg category, Vladimir Gotisan was defeated by Iranian Seyed Morad Mohammadi Pahnekalaei. Andrei Podsevalnicov (120 kg) was defeated in the 1/8 finals by Spaniard Jose Cuba. Moldovans Ivan Guidea (55 kg) and Nicolai Ceban (96 kg) were eliminated from the competition on the first day of the championship.
Three Moldovan freestyle wrestlers are yet to enter the competition: Alexandru Burca (74 kg), at men's, and Natalia Budu (51 kg) and Ludmila Cristea (59 kg), at women's.
Three other Moldovan athletes, Vladimir Zaporojan (66 kg), Andrian Mocanu (84 kg) and Anatolie Moldovan (96 kg), will join the Greco-Roman wrestling event.
The World Freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships this year brought together more than 500 wrestlers from over 50 countries.
