The torrential rain of June 16 and 17 damaged roads and destroyed bridges and crops in Tocuz and Ucrainca villages of Causeni district. According to the General Inspectorate for Emergencies, which intervened to remedy the situation, the level of water in the pond situated near the two villages decreased significantly by the morning of June 18 and the danger of floods diminished, IPN reports.
After the rain that fell on June 16, the level of water in the pond near Tocuz și Ucrainca increased considerably and the road to Ukraine was covered with mud. Gravel was spread at night to improve the situation.
In the morning of June 17, the level of water declined by about 1.5 meters. Towards noon, the rescuers, together with employees of the road company “SA Drumuri Causeni”, managed to restore access to the village and the inhabitants of Ucrainca could travel without difficulty.
The rescuers also intervened in villages of Floresti and Ungheni districts, where the water entered several house yards. Local commissions for emergencies are working at the scene to gauge the extent of the damage caused by the rain.
