Tomatoes with excessive nitrate concentration found in Balti

The Agency for Consumer Protection found that the tomatoes sold in the open-air market in Balti contained excessive amounts of nitrates, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a press release of the Agency, inspectors took tomato samples from the individuals selling in the food markets of Balti. The samples were tested at the laboratory of the Balti Public Health Center and the results confirmed the consumer’s doubts about the quality of tomatoes. The sample results showed 291 mg of nitrates per kilo, while the admitted limit is 250 mg/kg for greenhouse tomatoes and 80 mg/kg for garden tomatoes. The Agency for Protection of the Consumer will inspect the other open-air markets in the country as well.
