The representatives of the political bloc “Together”, who say that they are extremely worried about the situation created in the agricultural sector, demand the immediate resignation of Minister of Agriculture Vladimir Bolea. They also say that they support the idea of declaring a state of emergency in agriculture, which would allow the debts of farmers affected by the drought to be frozen for at least one year, and also of addressing foreign partners for financial support to stabilize the situation in the sector, IPN reports.
“After three consecutive years of severe drought in a number of regions, against the background of the war in Ukraine, after the exorbitant increase in the costs of the resources needed for agricultural production, the dramatic decrease in raw material prices and the lack of protection of the internal market, today thousands of micro-, small- and medium-sized farmers in rural areas are close to a catastrophe,” reads a press release issued by the bloc formed by the “Dignity and Truth Platform” Party, the League of Cities and Communes, and the Party of Change.
“The whole country sees, once again, the desperate requests of farmers, who cannot fight the consequences of climate change on their own, but also the arrogant and superficial reaction of the relevant ministry. We draw attention to the fact that agricultural producers no longer even address the Ministry of Agriculture, as they lost hope that they will get an appropriate reaction,” the release reads.
The representatives of the bloc “Together” also said that it was long ago necessary to organize a platform of efficient communication between the Government, farmers’ associations, representatives of the academic community and development partners about the radical change of the agricultural development strategy in the conditions of climate change.
