August 31 is the last day for initiative groups supporting presidential candidates to file for registration with the Central Electoral Commission.

The application can be submitted at the CEC headquarters on Vasile Alecsandri Street until 5:00 p.m.

Each successfully registered group them needs to gather at least 15,000 and at most 25,000 signatures in support of their respective candidate from at least half of the number of administrative units of second level, meaning districts, plus the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti.

To date, the Central Electoral Commission has registered 11 initiative groups, with several other applications pending.

Signature lists are to be submitted by September 20.
