To export to EU, Moldovan producers must be competitive, ODA head

To be competitive on foreign markets, the national producers must enhance their competitiveness and this implies meeting a number of criteria, primarily the quality and quantity of products. The standards in the EU are rather high and must be met for being able to export to this market, said the director of the Organization for Entrepreneurship Development (ODA) Dumitru Pîntea, IPN reports.

“Moldova is mostly an exporter of agricultural products, of raw, non-processed products with reduced value added, such as grain, fruit, vegetables that are exported in bulk. However, we want to see processed raw material, as we said. Evidently, this is typical rather of larger companies that can meet those requirements on international markets, when it goes to competitiveness, primarily the quality, quantity and price,” Dumitru Pîntea stated in the program “In the Context” on Moldova 1 channel.

He noted that the small and medium-sized entrepreneurs also show that they have capacity to produce and process. After a period during which these have been rather weak, the support of the state is aimed namely at this category of entrepreneurs - SMEs - so as to enhance their competitiveness.

According to Dumitru Pîntea, besides raw material, Moldova also exports processed products in such sectors as electronic trade, metals, food industry, packed products, and the ICT.

“Competitiveness incorporates three important criteria. The fist criterion is the quantity and a sufficient quantity should be produced to ensure a long-term contact with a foreign partner. The products should also be of a high quality and meet the quality requirements on foreign markets. In the EU, the standards are rather high. And the price is also a criterion as this is the factor that defines the category of buyers,” noted the ODA head.
