The Union of Composers and Musicologists is asking the "Maria Bieșu" National Opera and Ballet Theater (TNOB) to stage "Stefan cel Mare" opera, by Gheorghe Mustea. The work was presented at a press conference today.
Gheorghe Mustea says that he worked for several years on this product, which he completed in 2016. It is a historical work concerning one of the most important periods of the great ruler. The action reflects the battle of Vaslui in 1475, in which Stephen the Great had a crushing victory over the Turkish army, after which he built a church.
Andrei Chistol, state secretary at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, said that it is important that the national works be known firstly by Moldovans. "There are important moments in this opera that must be promoted despite the limited possibilities of the Opera Theater," the state secretary said.
Svetlana Bivol, head of the Union of Composers and Musicologists, believes that each act in this work has the right to its own life because it is very clearly conceived, has a well-defined form, can be interpreted in any musical program. "It is a music imbued with folklore and the special feeling that master Mustea always tries to convey in his works," said Bivol Svetlana.
Ion Gajim, author of two monographs about Gheorghe Mustea, says that the staging of an opera is not only a cultural and musical event, it is also a spiritual event, something that stands above other activities that take place in a human society.
