Tiraspol will claim compensation from Russia if it pulls out armament from region

If Russia decides to withdraw its troops and armament from the Transnistrian region, Tiraspol will seek a compensation for such an act, the region’s leader Yevgeny Shevchuk said in an interview for Ria Novosti, Info-Prim Neo reports. Yevgeny Shevchuk referred to the depots in Kolbasna village of Rybnitsa district. Earlier, the Transnistrian administration said on a number of occasions that the armament and munitions stored in the region were inherited from the Soviet period. Therefore, Tiraspol has the right to ask for a compensation or a reduction in the debt for the natural gas supplied by Russia. The Transnistrian leader also said that from his viewpoint, the presence of the Russian armament in the region is a guarantee of stability. According to him, the local population is for the Russian armament to remain in the region at least until the Transnistrian conflict is resolved.
