The Government of Moldova should be waiting for actions on the part of the Transnistrian administration, which is ready to carry out a number instructions of the Russian Federation before the Vilnius Summit, where Moldova is to initial the Association Agreement with the EU. Such an opinion was stated by invitees to the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
Former member of the Joint Control Commission Ion Leahu said the constitutional authorities should not communicate and negotiate with Tiraspol. But the Prime Minister of Moldova and other functionaries count on a dialogue and consider that they can reach a consensus. “I think we should identify other methods, based on the realities. Tiraspol is unable to do something by itself. It is under Russia’s influence. Its duty is to coordinate and promote certain things. I said it’s not the case for a leader to speak with Yevgeny Shevchuk, who is an inferior. Moscow will continue to finance Transnistria, while the Transnistrian leader is only a puppet of Moscow,” said Ion Leahu.
Politologist Aurelian Lavric said the relations between Chisinau and Tiraspol must be like a litmus test for doing reforms and strengthening the relations with the EU. “Russia, by its agents from Moscow, takes steps and wants to influence the situation on the right bank of the Nistru, given that Moldova is coming closer to the EU. The relationship with Tiraspol will worsen after Moldova associates itself with the EU. The Moldovan government didn’t manage to improve the living standards and to make the right bank attractive for Transnistrians. The EU will not accept the precedent of Cyprus in the case of Moldova,” he stated.
Politician analyst Roman Mihaes underlined that despite the pressure exerted by Russia, Moldova cannot withdraw from the Association Agreement with the EU. Moldova can already open the negotiations on the association with the EU as a solution to the Transnistrian conflict now anyway does not exist. After the association with the EU, Moldova will look for solutions together with the European community.
Political analyst Anatol Taranu, director of the Center for Political Analysis and Consultancy “Politicon”, said the Transnistrian conflict started 22 years ago and a solution hasn’t been yet identified. “The Transnistrian issue must not be an impediment to Moldova’s integration into the EU. Time will come and the problem will be solved, while the course to Vilnius is the correct one. No solutions will be identified in the near future. We should not have illusions,” he stated.
Anatol Taranu stressed the Transnistrian conflict remains frozen because Moldova does not have political allies that would want to confront Russia.
