Tiraspol took a unilateral and unjustified decision, OSCE

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe regrets the unilateral and unjustified decision of the Transnistrian security service to limit the movement of the representatives of the OSCE Mission to Moldova to the eastern districts of the country. OSCE Mission spokeswoman Paula Redondo said that this decision makes the fulfillment of the Mission’s duties difficult.

“The OSCE remains neutral and impartial in its activity in Moldova and in its role of mediator in the settlement process,” said Paula Redondo, quoted by IPN.

Head of Parliament Igor Corman had a meeting with Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova Jennifer Brush. The Speaker expressed his concern about the actions taken by Tiraspol to limit the Mission’s access to the Transnistrian region. “As a mediator, the OSCE Mission must have free access to the region in order to carry out the tasks entrusted to it by the 57 member states,” he stated.

The decision of the Transnistrian security service providing that the representatives of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, except those taking part in the meetings of the Joint Control Commission and the Mission’s head, will be able to cross the Nistru River only by two checkpoints, takes effect on February 1. Their movement in the eastern districts will be monitored by the Transnistrian KGB.
